There are theories about who Falcon and Winter Soldier episode 5 secret cameo is, but it’s been confirmed it won’t be Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa.

The secret cameo in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5 will not be Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. As Marvel Studios Disney+ series approaches its final two episodes, the anticipation of how its arc will be resolved is getting stronger. However, aside from the show’s ending itself, many are also looking forward to discovering who the penultimate outing’s surprise appearance will be.

Over the last several weeks, some cast and crew of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have repeatedly teased the mystery cameo saved for episode 5. Considering WandaVision‘s disappointing guest star that Paul Bettany teased who turned out to just be himself playing White Vision, viewers are more cautious about getting their hopes up. But understandably, curiosity still wins with countless theories of who this unidentified character might be. While Marvel Studios can’t reveal who they are just yet, it’s been confirmed that it won’t be Black Panther.

Speaking with Vanity Fair about all things The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, MCU producer Nate Moore confirms that episode 5’s guest star won’t be Boseman’s Wakandan King. The Marvel Studios exec also acknowledged that they have to be extremely careful in tackling T’Challa’s story in the franchise in light of the prolific actor’s untimely passing in 2020 after four years of battling cancer.

“No. I can say. That is not going to happen. I would be honest if it was. Chad’s passing is a whole life thing, and I loved the guy as much as the character. I think we have to be very careful and thoughtful about when he appears, because he meant so much to a lot of people as much as he meant to us. But yeah, we wouldn’t use that as a ‘Come next week; maybe you’ll see Panther!’ We wouldn’t, and he’s not.”

Black Panther and Wakanda are indirectly tied to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as they’re instrumental in Bucky’s healing. After Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers left his best friend in the advanced nation for refuge. As revealed in the Black Panther post-credit scene and subsequently in the Marvel Studios Disney+ show, they were able to properly rehabilitate him. However, it was uncertain if this was going to factor in the series until Ayo showed up after Zemo broke out of jail. Now, the Wakandans are involved in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but their king won’t make an appearance.

T’Challa won’t be recast, but Black Panther 2 will continue with the rest of the cast and Ryan Coogler. The filmmaker previously said that the actor would want them to move forward with their plan for the movie, but it’s currently unknown how they will explain what happened to the King of Wakanda. While he won’t appear in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Boseman’s final Marvel Studios project is the animated What if…? show where he voiced his character who swaps arcs with Star-Lord.
